Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS)
– Subclass 186 VISA
The ENS Visa entitles skilled workers to reside in Australia on a permanent basis after being sponsored by an employer where the position cannot be filled by an Australian worker.
A 186 visa entitles the holder to all permanent resident benefits including healthcare, social security benefits and possible eligibility for citizenship.
A 186 visa can be granted to 457 visa holders who have worked for his/her employer for at least two years – this is the Temporary Residence Transition Stream.
A 186 visa can also be granted to skilled overseas workers who have never or only briefly worked in Australia and who have at least 3 years relevant work experience in his/her field – this is the Direct Entry Stream.
There are 2 stages of a subclass 186 visa application:
1. Nomination
An approved business sponsor must nominate a skilled worker for a position of employment. The position must be from an approved list of occupations and meet salary and other requirements.
2. Visa Application
The nominated worker must apply for the subclass 186 visa. The applicant must be under 50 years old, have the necessary skills and work experience for the position and meet English, character and health requirements.
